Dorothy In-Lan Wang Li serves as co-executive director of the Asian Alliance Program at The John Marshall Law School. She has been building partnerships between members of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) of the People's Republic of China and John Marshall since 1994. Originally launched as information sessions, the program has expanded into a full LL.M. degree curriculum in intellectual property (IP) law in which John Marshall professors teach several courses in China and Chinese attorneys travel to Chicago to complete the degree. She also has done outreach to universities and businesses in Taiwan and South Korea.

Li has worked on several attorney exchanges with China through the City of Chicago's Sister Cities Program and the U.S. Department of State. She also worked on the development of John Marshall's summer IP course for American law students that has been approved by the American Bar Association.

In 2007, Li received the People's Republic of China Friendship Award, one of the highest honors given to a non-citizen, for her initiatives that have led to greater social and economic development in China.

Li first joined the John Marshall staff in 1992 as an associate professor of law and director of library services. She was later promoted to associate dean and continued serving as library director until her retirement in 2006. A native of Shanghai, China, Li was raised in Taiwan where she received a law degree from National Taiwan University. She immigrated to the United States and continued her education earning a degree in library science and an M.B.A. from Dominican University. She taught and lectured at colleges and universities in the United States and China.
