Resources for ESL Students
Online Resources
A Writer's Reference, an online companion to the Diana Hacker book of the same name, contains free grammar exercises, exercises for non-native speakers, and links to additional online resources for ESL students.
The Online Writing Lab ("OWL") at Purdue University provides multiple handouts on ESL topics, exercises with answers, and links to additional resources.
The Voice of America News Service's "Special English" allows users to listen to a news story while reading along with a script of the same story. The vocabulary is simplified, idioms are not used, and stories are read at a slower pace to allow for easier comprehension. The site also offers games and quizzes that use the vocabulary found in the news stories.
English-At-Home provides users with information on basic English vocabulary and grammar, as well as tests, games, and quizzes.
