Scholarship Opportunities and Applications
Thank You Letters
There's no question that the John Marshall alumni and friends who make scholarships available through their generous contributions deserve our thanks. Therefore, we politely require all scholarship recipients to submit a letter of thanks to The John Marshall Law School Foundation before their scholarship funds are released. No envelope or stamp is required; the Foundation will mail the letter for you. We ask that you not send your letter directly to the donor.
Thank You Letter Submission
Your scholarship donor's name will be included with your award notification, and can also be acquired by contacting Maridonna Schaal at The John Marshall Law School Foundation. A hard copy of your letter should be delivered to the Foundation on the 11th floor of the CBA building.
Thank You Letter Hints
It's important that you convey the same spirit of personal excellence in your donor letter that you did to earn your scholarship. As you write your letter, be mindful of grammatical and spelling errors, and be sure to use spell check and grammar check when you finish. The Foundation staff will review your letter before it's mailed, and if your letter contains errors, it will need to be corrected and reprinted for your signature before mailing.
Thank You Letter Content
Please include your return address, phone number, and email address at the top of the letter, so the donor can continue the correspondence if he or she chooses. As you write, consider the following areas of interest:
- Personal Information, including where you're from, your family background, your education, and other experiences that led you to choose John Marshall.
- Scholarship Information, including the name of your scholarship and what it means to you. Do not mention the amount of your scholarship award in your letter.
- Present Situation, including your year of study at John Marshall (if applicable), why you're studying law, organizations in which you participate, and externships you plan to do.
- Future Goals, including what you hope to accomplish at John Marshall and future career plans.
