CDEL has been approved to adminster the Pro Se Adult Guardianship Help Desk in the Daley Center.
The Pro Se Adult Guardianship Help Desk provides assistance to those seeking to appear pro se in proceedings seeking adjudication of disability for an alleged disabled person; and, appointment of a guardian for that person. Help Desk staff provide information and assistance regarding the required process and procedures for filing a petition, scheduling a hearing, service of Summons and Notice in these guardianship proceeding.
CDEL was granted approval in July, 2009 by the Probate Court of Cook County to begin the transition of the Help Desk from Loyola School of Law's Elder Law Clinic to CDEL. That transition has been completed and now CDEL coordinates and staffs the Help Desk on a full time basis.
The Help Desk is located in the Daley Center, 50 W. Washington on the 12th Floor. It is staffed M-F from 8:30-4:30 every day court is in session. The Help Desk is primarily staffed by law students and paralegals.
The administration of the Help Desk marks another milestone in the 25 year history of CDEL.
For information on volunteering at the Pro Se Adult Guardianship Help Desk in the Daley Center, please contact CDEL directly. Students may be eligible for Federal Work Study, Internships or Externships through JMLS for their volunteer work with CDEL.
About CDEL
Founded in 1984 by the Young Lawyers Section of the Chicago Bar Association, CDEL is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the legal rights of low-income persons with disabilities and senior citizens in Cook County.
CDEL's Mission
CDEL provides pro bono legal services through the combined efforts of a modest in-house staff and an active network of hundreds of volunteer attorneys, paralegals, and law students from top law firms and academic institutions.
In this way, CDEL services a dual mission:
(1) To provide Cook County's most deserving yet underrepresented individuals with access to high quality legal services; and
(2) To foster pro bono culture throughout the Chicago area legal community.
