           Diversity Week - March 22-25, 2010, March 25

OVERVIEW of the Disability Law Organization (DLO)

The Disability Law Organization was founded in October of 2009 with an initial focus on four main groups:

  1. Students who want to practice in the disability law field
  2. Students with a disability
  3. Students who have a family member or friend with a disability
  4. Students interested in this important area of law

GOALS

Participating in the Disability Law Organization will provide the opportunity for students to share ideas, collaborate, and discuss new developments in the field.  Additionally, resources will be provided to students with visible and hidden disabilities, learning and cognitive disabilities, in addition to those who might only have a temporary disability.  The development of camaraderie among peers is an opportunity for students with a disability to development friendships, discuss obstacles in earning a law degree, and set in place the necessary accommodations for taking the bar exam.

Furthermore, guest speakers from the public and private sectors will provide participants in the organization the benefit of staying informed on current developments and assist those who want to practice in the disability law field with important contacts in the marketplace.

FUTURE EVENTS

Members of the Disability Law Organization have the potential to develop and host an event in the summer or fall of 2010 in recognition of the 20th anniversary of The Americans with Disabilities Act that was signed into law on July 26, 1990.
