Ninth Annual 1L Mock Trial Competition

Preliminary Rounds - March 23, 2012 - 5:00 - 9:00 P.M.
Final Rounds - March 24, 2012 - 10:00 A.M

 

Eligibility: The 1L Mock Trial Competition is open to all JMLS students who have completed at least 12 hours and no more than 18 hours of credit; the competition is not open to any student who is taking or has taken Trial Advocacy or Evidence.

Mandatory Information Session:Wednesday, February 15th beginning at 5:00 pm in Room 420 - - for all students who are interested in participating or learning more about the competition. The Trial Advocacy Board members will present a brief demonstration highlighting various aspects of a mock trial. In addition to the trial demonstration, you will learn details of the competition, the procedure for signing up to participate and have an opportunity to ask questions.

Mandatory Evidence Lecture:Tuesday, February 21st from 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. in Room 420 for all students
who will be participating. This 45-minute lecture is presented by The Honorable John Darrah, US District Court Northern District of IL, and The Honorable Lawrence Flood, Circuit Court of Cook County.

Team Signups: Friday, February 17th, beginning at 9:00 am in Room 411. At least one member of each team MUST be present. At this time, we will hand out the competition problem and assign you a coach. However, please note that teams may elect to find their own coach (professors, practicing attorneys, etc). In that event, please provide us with the name and telephone number of your coach when you sign up on February 18th.

Mandatory Courtroom Technology Lecture: Tuesday, March 6th, beginning at 5:00 pm in Room 420.
Students will learn about utilizing courtroom technology in trials. There will also be instruction on the technological portions of this year's trial problem and how they can be incorporated into the trial presentation.
