August A. Rendigs, Jr. National Products Liability Moot Court Competition

The August A. Rendigs, Jr. National Products Liability Moot Court Competition is hosted annually by the University of Cincinnati College of Law.  In April, 30 teams competed in three preliminary rounds.

Recent issues include the following: (1) whether federal law implicitly preempts the plaintiff from bringing an action under a state Food Drug and Cosmetics Act; and (2) whether a 1:1 ratio of punitive damages to actual damages is excessive and violates the Due Process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

In 2010, Tara Shelke and Zachary Shook advanced to the Quarterfinal round.  In 2008 Matthew Goodstein, John Knowles, and Emma Power won Second Place, and Emma Power won Best Oralist.
