1L Moot Court Competition
HOME - BOARD - COUNCIL - TEAMS - HERZOG - 1L COMPETITION - CONTACT
More than forty students returned to school two weeks early this August to compete in the Moot Court Honors Program’s first-ever 1L Moot Court Competition. Students entering their second or third semesters of law school participated in the competition to improve their oral argument skills before taking Herzog in the fall.
Professor Mary Nagel taught competitors how to deliver winning arguments, and 3L volunteer coaches worked intensely with competitors to hone their skills. After just one week of practice, the competitors faced off against each other in a moot court competition at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse with John Marshall alumni and professors serving as judges.
The finalists had the privilege to argue in the Ceremonial Courtroom before Justice Michael Gallagher of the Illinois Appellate Court, as well as Professor Juli Campagna and Corinne Morrissey.
The Moot Court Honors Program is grateful for the generosity of Professor Juli Campagna, Professor Mary Nagel, Professor Joanne Hodge, James Borkman, and Beck’s Books for donating the awards presented to the Best Oralist, Best Team On-Brief Argument, Best Team Off-Brief Argument, Semifinalists, and First and Second Place Teams.
To get involved in the next competition, contact Ryan Wangler (rwangle@law.jmls.edu) for more information.
