REGISTRAR: Illinois Bar Exam Information

Law Student Registration Application (LSR)

  • When filed within the firsttwo years of law school, the Character & Fitness portion of the bar application is referred to as theLaw Student Registration Application(LSR).
  • Completing theLSR during the 1st year of law school will result insubstantially reduced fees later when submitting your bar exam application.
  • You may also complete the LSR in the second year of law school for an increased fee; see www.ibaby.org for details.
  • AugustIncoming Students must file by MARCH 1 of the following year.
  • JanuaryIncoming Students must file by JULY 1 of the same year.

Filing Deadlines for Illinois Bar Exam (1st Time Applicants)

  • JULY EXAM
    Regular Filing Deadline:February 1
    Late Filing Deadline:April 1
    Final Filing Deadline:May 31
  • FEBRUARY EXAM
    Regular Filing Deadline:September 1
    Late Filing Deadline:November 1
    Final Filing Deadline:December 31

Bar Application Shortcuts

  • Authorization and Release Form may be notarized by the staff in the Registrar'soffice, room 301. Jodie Needham, Anna Johnson and Daphnee Pierre are public notaries.
  • Certificate of Dean of Law School will be automatically provided on your behalf by the law school to the Illinois Bar. After you submit your application, the Illinois Board will notify you of the missing Dean's Certificate.

    Please realize we must wait until after graduation to mail this certification, however, we will ensure its delivery before the deadline.

 

 

Other State Bar Examinations (not Illinois)

  • It is the student's responsibility to check the appropriate State Bar's website for its requirements.
  • UPON WRITTEN REQUEST to Elizabeth Martin at 6martin@jmls.edu, we will provide to ALL state bars the required documentation with respect to certification of graduation or for matters pertaining to character and fitness.
  • As a graduate of JMLS, no fees will be charged for this service.
