Summer Access to LexisNexis and Westlaw
John Marshall Students may extend their LexisNexis and Westlaw passwords for summer use if certain conditions are met. For more information on registering for full access privileges, click here. Students who do not register their passwords will have limited summer access.
LEXISNEXIS
Continuing Students
LexisNexis offers full access privileges over the summer as long as you certify that your access will be used for one of the following:
- Summer School
- School-Related Research Assignment
- Moot Court Research
- Law Review or Journal Research
- Working as a Professor's Research Assistant
- Non-Profit Externship
- Unpaid Internship/Externship
- Bar Review
"Academic purposes" do not include research conducted for a law firm, corporation or other entity (other than a professor or law school) that is paying the student to conduct said research or that is passing along the costs of said research to a third party. If you do not register, your LexisNexis law school ID will be limited to only career materials as of June 1, 2008.

Graduating Students
Graduating students can sign up for summer access privileges as well. Graduating IDs will be extended to August 1, 2008. Use is subect to the same terms as continuing students face, above.
WESTLAW
Continuing Students
John Marshall law students may register for full Westlaw summer access as long as the access is being used in conjunction with one of the following:
- Summer law school classes
- Law Review and Journal work (including write-on competitions)
- Project for a professor
- Moot Court
- Unpaid non-profit public interest internship/externship or pro bono work required for graduation, except as stated below*
*"I understand that using my Westlaw student password to provide research for entities such as Law Firms/Government Organizations/Entities serving the District of Columbia/Corporations /Paid or For-profit Internships/Externships/Public Interest/Non-graduation required Pro Bono is not an educational purpose and is strictly prohibited. I also understand that personal use, practice and preparation for the bar exam are not educational purposes and are not valid reasons for extending my password."

Just like with LexisNexis, summer access is subject to the terms and conditions of the Westlaw Law School Student User Agreement (pdf):
If you do not qualify for full access, you will still have a total of 2 hours of Westlaw research time before it deactivates.

Graduating Students
Graduating 3Ls/LLMs passwords expire at the end of May. You can receive extended time on your Westlaw password this summer to study for the bar exam. All you need to do is fill out the WestlawRewards Graduate Survey. Please note, this password will not allow you to print at the Westlaw printers at school.
