Windows Live Mesh

Windows Live Mesh is your own personal portal that allows you to securely synchronize and access your files and remotely connect to your office computer when away from work. The instructions below will assist users to begin using the free service by creating their own personal "mesh."

Instructions on using Windows Live Mesh

Step 1: Open Microsoft Internet Explorer
Step 2: Go to www.mesh.com

You can start your mesh—your network of devices and synchronized folders—by signing in, then downloading and installing the Live Mesh software on each of your computers. It's just a few simple steps:

Step 3: Sign in

From the link at the top of any page of the Live Mesh website, sign in with your Windows Live ID (if you don't have a Windows Live ID you can create one free). Once you sign in, you'll be taken to your Live Mesh Devices page.

Step 4: Add a computer to your mesh

From the Devices page, click Add Device. Use the drop-down menu to select your computer’s operating system, and then click Install. This downloads the Live Mesh software to your computer. Once you’ve installed the software, you’re ready to begin synchronizing folders between: your computer and your Live Desktop, your computer and other devices in your mesh, or your computer and a friend’s computer.

Step 5: Sync a folder on your PC with your mesh

Make sure you’ve added the PC to your mesh . From your PC, right-click the folder you want to sync, and then click Add folder to Live Mesh. You’ll have the opportunity to choose which devices in your mesh you want the folder to sync with. Click OK, and the folder’s color will turn blue, indicating it’s now synchronizing with your mesh.

Step 6: Sync a folder already in your mesh with your PC

When you add a PC to your mesh, any folders already in your mesh will automatically appear on your PC desktop as faded folder shortcut icons. To start synchronizing one of these folders with your PC, right-click the folder, and then click Sync with this computer. The folder’s color will turn blue, indicating it’s now synchronizing with your PC.
