eCommons Frequently Asked Questions

What is eCommons?

eCommons is the new central location for students to access John Marshall Law School information. Between now and September, it will replace LegalEase as the source for class information, student account information, and registration. Fall 2011 registration will take place through eCommons.

What’s going on with LegalEase?

Registration for Summer 2011 takes place through LegalEase. LegalEase will remain the main source for student account information and ClassSites through the Summer 2011 term. After the Summer 2011 term, eCommons will replace LegalEase, and LegalEase will be discontinued.

Why was it created?

To provide better service to students, JMLS is changing its student administration system. This change includes the implementation of eCommons, a much enhanced web portal. eCommons allows easier access to student information, more function for online class sites, and access via smartphones (e.g., iPhones, Android-based phones, and Blackberries).

What can it do for me now?

eCommons provides a central location for accessing JMLS-related information. It allows you to:

  • Easily link to commonly-used JMLS web pages, from the main menu and from Quicklinks
  • Link to Live@Edu email and calendar
  • Create your own bookmarks for websites you commonly use
  • Access student information through WebAdvisor
    • Register for classes (starting with Fall 2011)
    • Manage your registration waitlist
  • Use MySites to create your own website to share information with your JMLS colleagues

How do I access it?

  1. Go to https://ecommons.jmls.edu, preferably using Internet Explorer
  2. Log on using your LegalEase user ID and password

    User ID format: youruserid

What if I get security warning when on eCommons?

  1. Refer to this guide here to adjust your Internet security options.

What’s the plan? When will additional function become available?

  • Additional student information through WebAdvisor includes access to:
    • Fall 2011 class schedule (Once you’re registered)
    • Financial aid information (Coming soon)
    • Student account information and making payments (Summer 2011) Your LegalEase balance will be moved and all financial information accessed through eCommons
    • Grades (Fall 2011)
    • Transcripts (Fall 2011)
    • List of courses you need to take to graduate (January 2012)
  • eCommons Class Sites – Replacing LegalEase class sites with more functionality! This will start with Fall 2011 classes (Summer 2011)
