GENERAL INFORMATION

A.  Publicity

School-connected news items are publicized as follows:

       1.   In the Loop

News of faculty activities in professional, civic, philanthropic and charitable organizations, including election and appointment to office, participation in seminars, publication of articles, etc., is printed as a matter of course, in the school's weekly newsletter, In the Loop.  In the Loop notifies the Board of Trustees, the Board of Visitors, the local media, the alumni association, and the JMLS team about the activities of the faculty, staff and the school in general. (Submissions must be made by 12:00 p.m. each Tuesday and should be copied to the INTHELOOP directory on the H drive of the JMLS computer network. Please use your name in the title of the submission).

      2.  Media Relations

One goal of the Media Relations Department is to create and/or maintain a close relationship with members of the local and national legal media, as well as non-legal media. In order to do so, school functions, special events and faculty appointments and activities are publicized through news releases sent to professional journals and organizations, newspapers (metropolitan and neighborhood) and magazines. Faculty should be sure to contact the Public Relations Director, Marilyn Thomas at ext. 661 or to Assistant Public Relations Director Andrea Koklys at ext. 554 as soon as that faculty member knows of an activity or event in which he/she will be participating. This procedure will enable the Office of Public Information to become more familiar with the activities of the faculty, and will ensure that a more informative and timely news release is distributed to the media.

      3.  Student News Releases

News releases regarding student competitions will also be sent to various members of the local media, as well as the student's hometown if he/she requests it.

B.   Publications

      1.  Catalog Preparation

A new catalog is published on-line every year. Each faculty member will receive a copy of his/her biography and, if applicable, each section which pertains to a particular center, program or event which he/she directs. The faculty will be asked at that time to make any needed changes and return them to the catalog editor by the deadline specified in the attached memorandum.  If changes are not received by that deadline, each faculty biography will then be printed as it appears in the current Catalog. The Administration reserves the right to edit material submitted. The faculty should also review the statement in the catalog describing their courses and to revise, alter, or amend as is deemed necessary, and return to Director of Academic Services Jodie Needham.

        2.  Miscellaneous Printed Materials

The Publications Department will also produce all other printed materials for the school in order to maintain consistency throughout the school and to administer a more uniform look to those audiences targeted outside of the school.  These printed materials include brochures, programs, invitations, posters, handbooks, etc.

All inquiries about printed materials (which do not coincide with a conference or special event) should be directed to Assistant Dean John McNamara, ext. 393, room 11W of the CBA building.

        3.  Advertising

All advertising space for the school will be reserved by Marilyn Thomas, who will assist members of the faculty in determining the cost, size, deadlines and copy of the advertisement.
