Faculty Library Improvements
February 28, 2005
You may or may not know that the current faculty library is located on the 8th floor of the library next to the elevators. It is in the same location as the old faculty library, but most of the space formerly dedicated to it was used to create the 8th floor computer lab. It currently has few contents besides shelves containing some of the faculty promotions and tenure applications. It is woefully uninviting and in need of change. Although it is small, some improvements are underway.
The first improvement will occur this week when the Media Services Department installs a new television monitor, a with video player and a DVD player. This equipment is intended to be used by the faculty for any reasonable purposes. Over the next several weeks and months there will be additional upgrades to the furnishings, shelving and seating.
It is also very likely that the faculty library will be relocated to a space that is at least a little larger and that is more conducive to be used for your reading, writing, and viewing needs. A search for a more suitable space is currently underway. It is my hope to complete this project before next fall and that there will be a newly outfitted faculty library that will meet your needs as faculty by being more comfortable and more useful for you whenever you may want to spend time working away from the distractions of your private offices.
In the meantime, however, steps will be taken to improve the appearance and utility of the current space. As usual, any suggestions are welcome and will be considered.
