Generous Gift Funds Student Lounge Redecoration
The John Marshall Law School community returns this fall to a newly redecorated student lounge, courtesy of a generous gift to the law school from Florence Miner and the friends and family of David R. Sargis. The Sargis-Miner Lounge, established in Memory of Sargis (J.D. '78), offers students an updated environment in which to study, dine or visit with fellow students, faculty and staff. Miner, Sargis' cousin, visited the law school in 2002 to present the first David R. Sargis Memorial Scholarship, which she also established in his memory. When she asked what other projects were being considered at the law school, Associate Dean William K. Beach, who is the law school's chief development officer, brought her to the student lounge. The room had not been updated for nearly 15 years, and Miner agreed to help underwrite the more than $140,000 redecoration project. Miner, along with Sargis' family and friends, many of whom had no direct relationship to the law school, were able to raise enough money to re-wallpaper, re-carpet and re-furnish the room. According to Miner's request, the furniture was chosen based on student recommendations, after a select group considered several options. Sargis, a 1978 graduate of John Marshall, practiced labor law for 18 years before his untimely death in 1995. Miner said her donations to John Marshall are to memorialize him as a living tribute to his integrity and concern for others. The lounge prior to redecoration.Top Of PageSchedule of EventsAugust 25
