Adjunct Professor Conference Follows Lead of Professor Celeste HammondThe John Marshall Law School hosted a June 7 all-day conference that assisted adjunct professors in developing teaching skills and gave them recognition for their work in the classroom. John Marshall Professor Celeste Hammond's effort to enhance the teaching skills of the center's adjunct faculty through specially designed "teach-ins" was the model for the conference. "Essential Teaching Skills for Adjunct Law Professors," organized by Gonzaga Law School's Institute for Law School Teaching in collaboration with John Marshall, had a participant list of adjunct professors teaching at American and Canadian law schools, as well as law school administrators, law professors and a delegation of Japanese legal scholars studying the American legal education system. Speakers acknowledged the important role adjunct professors play in legal education, especially in terms of bridging the gap from law school to practice, and to the fact that too often little or no effort is spent helping adjuncts develop their teaching skills, according to Virginia Harding, assistant director of the Center for Real Estate Law and one of the program's organizers.
Adjunct Professor Bruce Jackson of Anthony J. Madonia & Associates, leads a presentation at the all-day conference, "Essential Teaching Skills for Adjunct Law Professors," organized by Gonzaga Law School's Institute for Law School Teaching in collaboration with John Marshall. "Teach-ins" designed by John Marshall Professor Celeste Hammond (background, left), director of the Center for Real Estate Law, were the model for the conference.
