Experts Gather to Outline Means to Reduce Predatory Lending

A national conference designed to identify the research needed to support a legislative and litigation agenda to deter predatory lending was hosted by The John Marshall Law School Center for Real Estate Law.

The invitational symposium, "Market Failures and Predatory Lending _ Setting the Foundation for Reform," was presented by the National Consumer Law Center in Boston and The Woodstock Institute of Chicago May 17, 18 and 19. Approximately 100 of the most prominent experts on predatory lending met at the three-day conference to refine the understanding of the full economic and legal impact of predatory lending on individuals and their communities.

Professor Celeste Hammond, director of the Center for Real Estate Law, co-moderated a plenary session with Jonathan Miller from the U.S. Senate Banking Committee.

Elizabeth Renuart (at podium) of the National Consumer Law Center, makes a point to the audience also addressed by Malcolm Bush, president of the Woodstock Institute (seated) and Professor Celeste M. Hammond, director of the Center for Real Estate Law (right).
