She was elected the first chair of the new Section on Real Estate Transactions at the annual meeting of the Association of American Law Schools in Washington, D.C. This new section will provide a forum for professors who teach courses relating to real estate transactions, including Real Estate Transactions, Real Estate Finance, Real Estate Development, Condominium Law and the like. It supports the objectives outlined in the MacCrate Report to the American Bar Association, which urges law schools to prepare their J.D. students for the practice of law. Especially, in advanced elective courses, professors have the opportunity to break away from the litigation-based, case law approach and to turn to the transactions with which many attorneys spend their careers. In addition to supporting faculty in the substantive areas involving commercial real estate law, this new Section will enhance the ability of law professors to provide skills training in counseling , negotiations and drafting. More than 100 professors from across the country supported the creation of the new section. Its goals are distinct from the already established Property Law Section. She also served on a panel, "Predatory Lending- Learning to Love It in Law School," with Professors Kurt Eggert (Chapman), Kathleen Engel (Cleveland State) and Gregory Maggs (George Washington University). Her presentation involved suggestions on how to incorporate Predatory Lending into a real estate transactions or finance course and provided a working definition of Predatory Lending as a basis for such courses. John Marshall was praised, and envied, for having a separate course in Predatory Lending, according to Professor Hammond, who is one of the team of professors.
