Williams Receives Illinois Bar Foundation ScholarshipThird-year student Melissa Williams is John Marshall's 2002-2003 recipient of the $2,000 Illinois Bar Foundation Scholarship from the Illinois State Bar Association. She was one of 11 students who received the scholarship from the nine Illinois law schools and two law schools in St. Louis.
The Illinois Bar Foundation awards the scholarships annually to students who have an accomplished overall academic record, are involved in diverse curricular, extracurricular and community activities including the Illinois State Bar Association, and have financial need. Williams is president of the Black Law Students Association and co-founder/director of Sheperd's Temple Missionary Baptist Church's new Operation S.T.O.R.M. (Sheperd's Temple OutReach Ministry) Mentoring Program, started in February 2001 to aid North Lawndale community youth in setting lifetime goals. According to Williams, the focus for this year's program is the Juvenile Court system. She said she hopes to expand the services provided by the church to include a legal aid clinic after her graduation from The John Marshall Law School in June. Williams is an intern for the Circuit Court of Cook County Juvenile Division. She previously interned with the division in Summer 2002. Top Of PageMartin Luther King Day Celebration
