Jacqueline Ross Joins Faculty, Four Others Receive TenureJacqueline Ross, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and visiting law professor, will join the John Marshall faculty this fall teaching civil procedure, criminal procedure and criminal law. Tenure has been approved for Associate Professors Janice Mueller, Maureen Kordesh, Kevin Hopkins and Mark Wojcik. Professors Wojcik and David Sorkin have been given the rank of associate professor, and Professor Alberto Bernabe was made a full professor. Ross spent nine years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney before turning to teaching. She was a visiting assistant professor of law at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis last semester, and also was a visiting assistant professor of law at the University of San Diego School of Law in fall 2000.
While with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Ross investigated and prosecuted fraud, public corruption, computer crime, organized crime and narcotics conspiracies working out of the Chicago and Boston offices. She researched and wrote appellate briefs and argued appeals before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the First and Seventh Circuits. Ross received numerous honors for her work, including the Special Achievement Award for the U.S. Department of Justice; and service awards from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Her recent writings include "The Problem of Multiple Punishment: Double Jeopardy, Double Counting, and the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines" for the American Journal of Criminal Law, and "Unanticipated Consequences of Turning Sentencing Factors into Offense Elements: The Apprendi Debate" for the 12 Federal Sentencing Reporter 197. After receiving her law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1989, Ross was a law clerk for the Honorable Douglas H. Ginsburg, U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Ross earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago where she was editor of the Romance Language Review; studied in the opera program at Indiana University's School of Music; and received a Ph.D. in philosophy from Cornell University Graduate School. Dean Robert Gilbert Johnston has accepted the resignation of Jessie Grearson as director of the Writing Resource Center.
