Ten John Marshall Students Selected for PILI Legal WorkThe Public Interest Law Initiative selected 10 John Marshall students to participate in summer and spring semester internships and fellowships. David Hall, a first-year student, is interning with the Better Government Association. Carrie Linden, a first-year student, is interning at the Center for Disability and Elder Law. Tony Goodman, a second-year student, has a school-year internship at the Chicago Legal Clinic. James R. Carty, who has accepted a position at Mayer, Brown & Platt, and Teresa Faherty, who has accepted a position at Jenner & Block, are fellows at the John Marshall Fair Housing Clinic. Timothy Quirin, a second-year student, is a school-year intern at the Laywers' Committee for Better Housing. Robert D. Snow Jr., who has accepted a position at Kirkland & Ellis, is a fellow at Legal Aid Bureau. Ann J. Maron, who has accepted a position at Katten Muchin & Zavis, is a school-year fellow at Lawyers for the Creative Arts. Eric Pruitt, who has accepted a position at Sidley & Austin, is a fellow at Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago. Monica Torres, a second-year student, is an intern at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Top Of PageFaculty Activity and PublicationsProfessor Maureen KordeshPublicationsShe has been named an Assistant Editor for the Journal of the Legal Writing Institute, a professionally edited journal that focuses on scholarly and practical issues relevant to the discipline of legal writing. Professor David E. SorkinActivitiesHe spoke about Internet auctions and privacy at a meeting of the federal bankruptcy judges for the Northern District of Illinois on June 11, 2001. The Supreme Court of Washington upheld that state's antispam statute on June 7, 2001, reversing a lower court decision. The Supreme Court cited to Professor Sorkin's Spam Laws web site in its decision. On May 10, 2001, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia held that courts may review decisions of ICANN domain name dispute resolution panels, notwithstanding the Federal Arbitration Act's limitations on judicial review of arbitration awards. The court was considering a challenge to an October 2000 panel decision in which Professor Sorkin authored the dissenting opinion. Professor Mark E. Congratulating Costa is Paul Kissane (right), who with his family, established the Elmer Kissane Award in memory of his father. The John Marshall alumnus worked for the state's attorneys office for 43 years.
