The John Marshall Law School also received three awards for membership to the ABA/LSD this year. Third-year students Shane Popp and Christopher Buenik each received a Silver Key Award for service and outstanding contribution to the circuit. The Silver Key Award is the highest award that a law student can receive. Dean Robert Gilbert Johnston, Associate Dean of Admission William Powers and Marilyn Criss, Student Affairs administrative assistant, each received a certificate of appreciation for their "faithful service and encouragement of the law student division and for their support throughout the year," according to Catanzaro. The John Marshall Law School was also awarded all three of the Bronze Key Awards that are given in recognition for membership in the 7th Circuit. John Marshall's ABA/LSD was honored for the largest overall membership, highest percentage of students in the student body that are members, with more than 50 percent participation; and for the highest percentage of membership increase from the previous year. Oswald's Painting Graces Cover of CBA RecordEditors of the CBA Record, the magazine published by the Chicago Bar Association, chose a piece by Associate Dean Jane Oswald for the cover of the February/March 2001 issue of the magazine. The piece depicts a sandy path through a forest vividly represented by stunning green shades that emphasize the season. Dean Oswald said the painting is meant to suggest "all of the wonderful possibilities of our lives. The sunlight on the leaves represents myriad opportunities for growth and self-expression. As we look down the path, we ask ourselves what lies beyond the bend. We see some shadows which represent minor hurdles in life, but the eye passes over them easily and we become eager to see what lies ahead." She painted the piece at Ox-Bow in Saugatuck, Mich., the site of the School of the Art Institute's summer arts program.
