Faculty Activity and PublicationsProfessor Ann M. LousinActivitiesShe spoke at a panel discussion on issues involved in the re-drafting of Article One of the U.C.C. at the Spring Meeting of the Business Law Section of the A.B.A. on April 2, 1998. The panel topic was "Choice of Law Issues under UCC 1-105"; and she spoke on issues involved in letting parties opt into or out of the Code by agreement. She also participated in other meetings at the Spring meeting, including advertising the Symposium on Article 2B of the Journal of Computer Law, for which she wrote the foreword. At the Annual Meeting of the A.B.A. in Toronto in August, she presented a short paper on "Does Making an Issue of Fact into an Issue to be Decided by the Judge Violate the Right to a Jury Trial in State Constitutions"? Using Illinois as an example, she discussed the interface between state constitutions and the developing U.C.C. The Article 2-Sales Committee has asked her to prepare a study of the concept of unconscionability for the committee and for the Drafting Committee engaged in re-drafting Article 2. At the Ninth Annual Meeting held of the Armenian Bar Association on April 18-19, 1998, she relinquished the post of Chair of the Board of Governors, which she had held since March 1995. Under the by-laws she assumed the position of Immediate Past Chair. The members presented her with a beautiful framed certificate with Armenian artwork on it and the logo of the association. The inscription read: To Ann Lousin Professor, Legal Scholar, Advocate for Justice and Daughter of Sis (Her Father Was One of the Few Survivors), Whose Leadership, Humor and Guidance Led The Armenian Bar Association to New Heights During 1995-1998, With Appreciation and Affection From All Our Members Around the World - April 18, 1998-Philadelphia, Pennsylvania During 1998-99 she is the Chair of the Constitutional Law Committee of the Chicago Bar Association for the third time. (Previous terms: 1978-80 and 1987-88). Much of the Committee's work will involve a discussion of the Illinois constitution, using drafts of her book as the text. She is an official advisor to the Parliamentary Commission on Constitutional Reform and the Parliamentary Commission on State and Legal Reform of The Republic of Armenia. With the help of Raffi Sarrafian, J.D. 1997, and the Library Reference Department, she has researched and presented arguments, via e-mail, on various issues. She thanks Ralph Ruebner and Michael P. Seng for their assistance on the issues of dual citizenship and separation of powers in a parliamentary system. On May 15, 1998, she was one of a group of Chicago Armenians who briefed Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) on legal and political issues before his trip to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. When he spoke in Chicago in July, he singled her out as the one "whose deep and scholarly knowledge of Armenian issues" had helped him before his trip. Upon the nomination of Rhonda Sallee, J.D. 1998, she was selected for inclusion in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers". On August 27, 1998, she spoke on "the succession to the Presidency if Clinton resigns" during a radio interview with Station KMBZ in Kansas City. |
