John Marshall Program Examines 30 Years of Fair Housing Enforcement

The Fair Housing Legal Support Center at The John Marshall Law School is presenting a two-day workshop, "Celebrating 30 Years of Fair Housing: A Focus on Fair Housing Enforcement," examining the implementation of fair housing law.

"It's been 30 years since Title VIII was enacted into law and 10 years since the enactment of The Fair Housing Amendments Act," said Professor Michael Seng, co-executive director of the legal support center. "To mark that anniversary, this Sept.
11 and 12 program will focus on private enforcement and the effectiveness of individual lawsuits." The program will be conducted at The John Marshall Law School, 315 S. Plymouth Ct., Chicago.

Topics will include status reports on fair housing enforcement, and segregation and discrimination; an examination of state and local fair housing laws; the strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) investigative and conciliation processes; a look at the role of the U.S. Justice Department in enforcing fair housing laws; and private enforcement through litigation, class action and discovery.

Registration is being accepted through Aug. 24. Attorneys can enroll for approximately seven hours of CLE credit. This free program is underwritten with grants from the Fannie Mae Foundation and the Woods Fund of Chicago. To place a reservation contacts the Department of Event Management at The John Marshall Law School at (312) 987-1420.
