Six Alumni To Be Honored With Distinguished Service Awards From The John Marshall Law School

The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association has selected six outstanding alumni to receive the 1998 Distinguished Service Award.

Honorees Stephen J. Culliton, David A. Erickson, Angela Imbierowicz, Patrice Ball Reed, Joseph F. Vosicky Jr., and Daniel J. White will be recognized at the alumni association's annual luncheon May 15 at the Palmer House-Hilton Hotel in Chicago.

The six were selected by the alumni association's board of directors for their service to the legal profession, their communities and the law school.

Stephen J. Culliton is Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan's chief of staff overseeing all personnel decisions, matters of public policy and the representation of state government. During his tenure, Culliton has helped implement women's advocacy, veterans affairs, children's advocacy, disability rights, senior affairs and criminal justice programs.

Before joining state government in 1994, Culliton was an assistant state's attorney in DuPage County from 1970 to 1973 and with the DuPage County Public Defender's Office from 1974 to 1978 when he went into private practice in DuPage County.

David A. Erickson is serving as First Assistant State's Attorney of Cook County. He began his legal career there in 1977 and went on to earn a reputation as one of the county's top trial attorneys, trying 50 felony criminal and civil jury cases to verdict. After a stint in private practice, Erickson was appointed an associate judge in 1988 and heard cases as the supervising judge in Night Narcotics Court and then as a felony trial judge. He served there until his December 1996, appointment as First Assistant State's Attorney by State's Attorney Richard Devine.

The special efforts of Angela Imbierowicz, a Hinsdale attorney in private practice, have benefited children in DuPage County.

During her presidency of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers, the Child Friendly Courts Foundation was established to assess, build and operate a children's waiting room at the DuPage County Courthouse. She is currently the foundation's president.

Imbierowicz also is active within the Illinois State Bar Association and has served on a variety of committees as the 18th Judicial Circuit representative. She is currently serving as a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Professional Responsibility.

For nearly 10 years, Patrice Ball Reed has been an attorney with the Cook County Assistant State's Attorney's Office, first serving as the senior trial supervisor in the Child Support Enforcement Division, and now as a member of the real estate property tax unit. She was in private practice for five years previous to her appointment.

Her affiliations with the law community are many. Reed helped found the Black Women Lawyers Association of Greater Chicago, and has chaired numerous committees for the Illinois State Bar Association, the Cook County Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. She also serves on the board of directors of the Marcy-Newberry Association, a social service agency, and on The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association Board of Directors.

As president of the Bohemian Lawyers' Association of Chicago, Joseph F. Vosicky Jr. has worked with The John Marshall Law School in its exchange program at the Masaryk University Law School in the Czech Republic. He has been an adjunct faculty member lecturing in various topics, and an advisor for the establishment of the program.

Vosicky is in private practice in Wheaton.

Daniel J. White is a retired Cook County Circuit Court judge with a distinguished career serving on the bench for more than 30 years. He is best known for his work as chief judge of the traffic division. White's efforts helped clean up traffic court after the infamous Greylord investigation in the 1980s that pinpointed judicial corruption. He also had served in the law division, criminal division and misdemeanor courts.

White, a former adjunct professor at John Marshall, is a former member of the board of directors of the Illinois State Bar Association, and now serves as a director of Haymarket House.
