John Marshall Welcomes Italian Professor

The John Marshall Law School welcomed Professor Federico Mioni (second from left) of the University of Macerata, Italy, as a visiting scholar. During his visit at the law school, Mioni, a Thomas Jefferson scholar, was joined by John Marshall Professors (from left) Michael Polelle, R. Ben Brown and Samuel Olken in a lecture/discussion on "Thomas Jefferson: A View from Both Sides of the Atlantic."

Debt Management Counseling for Graduating Students

All students graduating in June who have borrowed under federal student loan programs at JMLS must attend an exit interview session. During this session you will learn important information about your repayment options. Exit interview sessions last approximately 35 minutes and are scheduled for the following dates and times:

Food Drive

The Asian Law Student Association is sponsoring a food drive from April 1 - April 10. Please donate any non-perishables; your donations count. Foodstuffs can be dropped off in the student lounge on the second floor.

Mmmmm Candy

The Decalogue Society will be selling Passover and Easter candy all week in the student lounge.

Spring Fling!

Mark your calendars. On April 13 at noon in room 3E, the annual Spring Fling celebration will feature a great lunch, music, and awards.

Student Bar Association

Attention Student Leaders

The SBA will be holding elections for the SBA executive board in April. Any student that is interested in running for office must submit a petition for candidacy. The petitions will be distributed from the SBA office starting March 25th. The petitions must be returned to the SBA office and signed by an SBA executive board member by 5:00 p.m. on April 8th. In addition to the candidacy petition, each candidate must give a speech at the Spring Fling April 13th. Elections will be held on April 15. Good luck to all interested candidates.

Celebrate Spring

On Monday, April 13 take a break and have some fun. The annual Spring Fling is here again so stop by 3E for a free lunch and listen to the JMLS Vocal Ensemble. Student Organization merit awards will also be distributed.

Softball Anyone?

Keep your calendars open April 18th. The SBA will be hosting a softball tournament at North Avenue Beach. There will be no registration fee. The only requirement is to sign up 15 players. Watch for flyers (both the informative and pop-up) or stop by the SBA office for more info.

Professor John D. Ingram

Publications

His article, "The Right (?) To Keep and Bear Arms," co-authored with Alyson Ray J.D. '96, has been published by the New Mexico Law Review.

His article, "A Constitutional Critique of Restriction on the Right to Marry -- Why Can't Fred Marry George -- Or Mary and Alice at the Same Time?," 10 J. Contemp. L. 33 (1984) was cited in 73 Indiana L.J. 355.

Professor Kathryn J. Kennedy

Activities

Professor Kennedy will be discussing benefit choices and opportunities for graduating students preparing to enter the workforce. She will present two informative sessions on Monday, April 27, at 12:30 and 5 p.m., in Room 216.

Publications

Her article, "Primer on Qualified Plans and IRA Distribution Rules," 25 Tax Management Compensation Planning Journal 11 (1997), was reprinted in its entirety in the March 1998 edition of the ISBA's Employee Benefits Newsletter.

Professor Michael J. Polelle

Activities

A radio station in San Antonio, Texas also interviewed him about the Oprah Winfrey case and the constitutionality of "veggie laws."

Publications

At the invitation of the Illinois Bar Journal, he wrote "Best v. Taylor Machine Works: A Resounding `No' to the Tort Reform Act", 86 Illinois Bar Journal 130 (March 1998).

Professor Ralph Ruebner

Activities

He drafted and submitted legislation to the Illinois General Assembly, which will consider creating a parent-child evidentiary privilege. The late Professor Mel Lewis attempted to persuade the legislature to do the same thing some time ago but was unsuccessful.
