Petrik Receives Scholarship

Holly Petrik, a second-year law student at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, is the recipient of the Advocates Society Scholarship sponsored by the Knights of Dabrowski, a Polish fraternal organization.

Petrik is using the award for tuition for her legal education. She was the only law school student among the 25 honorees at the 12th annual Crusade for Education awards ceremony.

Petrik spent the summers of 1994 and 1995 in Poland teaching English to students and professionals as a volunteer for Pomost International of Buffalo, N.Y. She served as the group's recording secretary in 1995. She now is a volunteer with Amicus Polonaie of Chicago, a non-profit, volunteer legal clinic for Polish Americans.

Before enrolling in law school, Petrik, the daughter of Michael Petrik and Theresa Petrik, both of Buffalo, N.Y, worked for Manufacturers and Traders Trust Corp. of Buffalo as a mortgage processor and later as an attorney liaison.

At John Marshall, Petrik is president of the Student Bar Association, and a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity-Lincoln Chapter, the John Marshall Law School International Law Society, and the Advocates Society of Chicago.

Petrik received a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and is a graduate of Mt. Mercy Academy in Buffalo.
