Brody as associate dean for institutional affairs, and John E. Corkery as associate dean for academic affairs effective Jan. 1. As associate dean for institutional affairs, Brody will be responsible for John Marshall's interaction with the public and operations that deal directly with law school promotions, including the upcoming centennial celebration.
Corkery, as associate dean of academic affairs, will be responsible for all academic programs and courses and the work of The John Marshall Law School faculty. Brody, of Glenview, joined the staff of The John Marshall Law School in 1982 and was named director of the school's lawyering skills program in 1984. Under her guidance, the legal research and writing program gained national recognition. Also from 1989 to 1995, Brody taught civil procedure, family law, legal ethics, and law and diversity courses. In 1995, she was named associate dean for academic affairs. "I believe it is increasingly important to this institution and legal education in general, that the person who is overseeing institutional relationships be familiar with the academic programs," Brody said. "My background will enable me, as associate dean for institutional affairs, to share an understanding of the philosophy of The John Marshall Law School, its outstanding academic programs and the work of its students and faculty." Aside from her John Marshall duties, Brody continues her work within the legal education profession. She serves on the American Association of Law Schools Committee on Bar Admission and Lawyer Performance. She also is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association Committees on Legal Education, Admission and Competence; Women and the Law; and Judicial Evaluation. She has served as an American Bar Association site evaluation inspector visiting law schools across the country. Brody is an alumna of The Ohio State University, and received her law degree from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law. A professor at John Marshall since 1973, Corkery teaches evidence, family law and legal ethics. He has represented lawyers before the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission and served as an expert witness in matters regarding professional responsibility. He has a reporter on evidence for numerous Illinois Judicial Conferences. "I believe my work with the law school and in practice will help me understand what students need from The John Marshall Law School to prepare them for their careers," Corkery said. The Chicago resident is past chairman of the Illinois State Bar Association Committee on Professional Conduct; serves as the Chicago Bar Association (CBA) representative to the Illinois Judicial Ethics Committee; is a member of the teaching faculty of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission's Professional Responsibility Institute; is a past member of the CBA Board of Managers, and a regular contributor to the CBA's "Christmas Spirits" annual event. Corkery received a bachelor's degree from St. Louis University and a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law. Alumni Association Honors Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court
His news duties as the Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court give John Marshall alumnus Charles Freeman (second from left) little time to enjoy his favorite pastime, sailing on Lake Michigan. The John Marshall Alumni Association wanted him to enjoy his happy memories, so they presented him with the model sailboat at a reception honoring him. At the presentation were (from left) Judge Jesse Reyes, president of the alumni association; Freeman; Judge Timothy Evans; Everette Braden and Adolphus Rivers. |
