Fair Housing Videotape Production Completed

The Media Services Department has recently completed production of a promotional videotape for The John Marshall Law School Fair Housing Legal Support Center and Clinic. The tape will present the Center's and Clinic's missions and introduce the importance of fair housing law to attorneys, architects, mortgage brokers, insurance agents, prospective students and other persons. The 23-minute tape features interviews with fair housing law experts from John Marshall and the nation. A copy of the tape will soon be available in the library. The department will now begin production of another videotape for the Fair Housing Center, specifically designed to teach advocates about accessible housing for the disabled.


Career Services Office

Internship with the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI)

The Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) announces a new School Year Internship Program, a pilot program to provide eight internship positions during the portion of the 1996-1997 academic law school year beginning on or after January 1, 1997. The program is available to third year students only. The deadline for applications is November 1, 1996; applications will not be accepted after that date. See the Career Services Office for an application form and see the "Public Interest" red book for further information and application procedure.


Student Activities

The John Marshall Board of Visitors will be present in the student lounge on October 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. They are looking forward to talking to students regarding their thoughts and concerns about the school.

The John Marshall Vocal Ensemble is looking for new members. The Ensemble practice every Wednesday on 3 East from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you do not want to sing, instrumentalists are also welcome. A holiday concert is planned for December 4. See Miss Criss in room 212 for more information.

Professor Mark E. Wojcik

Activities

He will serve with Professor Barbara Cox of the California Western School of Law as small group leaders at the American Association of Law Schools Workshop on Sexual Orientation, Law Schools, and the Law, October 3-5 in Washington, D.C.

Honors

He was nominated by Assistant Professor Maureen Kordesh, Director of the Legal Writing Program at The John Marshall Law School, to run for the Board of the Legal Writing Institute, a national organization dedicated to improving the teaching of legal writing, research, and analysis.

Publications

He submitted a chapter about the "Global Aspects of AIDS" for publication in the third edition of the treatise "AIDS and the Law," published by Wiley Publishing Company. The chapter focuses on the use of international human rights law to protect the rights of persons affected by HIV.


Office of Alumni Relations

The Alumni Association's Oktoberfest and Judges' Reception will be held on Friday, October 4, 1996 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Room 3 East of the Law School. Please join us at the start of The John Marshall Law School Reunion weekend to honor our alumni judges. There will also be an opportunity to meet judicial candidates. Oktoberfest food and beverages will be provided. The cost is $20 per ticket. Discount student tickets are available. The 1996 Class Reunion honoring the classes of '36, '41, '46, '51, '56, '61, '66, '71, '76, '81, '86, '91 will be held on Saturday, October 5, 1996. From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. a reception and tours of the Law School will be conducted. From 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., dinner and dancing from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The cost is $60.00 per person. Intensive Course in European Patent Practice

This four-day intensive course will provide a comprehensive understanding of the practice of patent prosecution in the European states, including national patents, EPO practice, PCT practice, EEC and EEA practices.

The course is designed to improve skills in European patent practice, including how to preserve your client's European patent rights, how to reduce costs of European patent prosecution, and how to file U.S. and PCT applications that will best work for subsequent European filings.

Advanced PCT Seminar for Patent Administrators

Media Services Department

The October 8 & 9, 1996 Student Lounge video presentations will be the "Sports Law Symposium: The Business of Sports Teams and Sports Figures," featuring alumni Darcy L. Bouzeos, Melvin L. Katten and Eugene Gozdecki. They discussed contract negotiations between owners and players, sports anti-trust exemptions and marketing sports figures.
