The John Marshall Center for Real Estate Law and the Kratovil Student Chapter of Lambda Alpha International is sponsoring a field trip to Homan Square on Friday, October 4, 1996. Buses will depart from John Marshall at 10 a.m. and return to the school at 2 p.m. (lunch at the site is included). Professor Debra Stark and Adjunct Professor Donna Pugh, a partner in the real estate department at Katten Muchin Zavis, are the Co-Chairpersons and organizers of the event.
The field trip will allow students to learn how land is redeveloped by touring an actual project and hearing presentations from some of the key professionals who worked on the project. Homan Square is located in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood. The site was previously used by Sears, Roebuck and Co. as their headquarters (they used the site for their offices and warehouses). Sears and The Shaw Company have joined together to redevelop the land in an innovative fashion. They plan over an eight to ten year period to build 600 units of affordable housing (for rent and for sale), one million square feet of renovated commercial space for office and light industrial use, and an array of community services for residents. The first phase of housing has already been completed.
If you are interested in attending this event, you must contact Professor Debra Stark (Room 506, 312.360.2650) and make a reservation as soon as possible.
