Professor Doris Long
Activities
On May 2, she presented her paper on "Cash `n Carry Creativity" at the Conference on New Media, New Markets, New Rights at Georgia State University. The conference was part of the Digital Arts Entertainment Lab (DAEL) Initiative. The paper gave eight critical policy questions that must be answered before copyright law can be revised to meet the needs of the global digital age. The paper was extremely well received and Long is considering writing a law review article and book using her arguments.
On April 25th, she presented the paper "The Tyranny of Land and Culture" at the Branding the Land: Trademarks, Geographic Indicators and the Advancement of Third World Development Conference at The John Marshall Law School. Long was the organizer of the day-long program. The paper builds on her earlier scholarship in the areas of geographic indications and traditional knowledge and will form the basis for an extended article on the topic.
Publications
Long's article, "Trademarks and the Beijing Olympics: Gold Medal Challenges," will be published in the China Symposium Issue of The John Marshall Review of Intellectual Property Law. She is the issue's guest editor.
Two articles Long prepared for the recent Fordham Conference will be published in the proceedings. They are "Ambush in Beijing: New Effort to Curb Ambush Marketing at the Beijing Olympics" and "Gold Medal Opportunities at the Beijing Olympics."
