Moot Court Honors Program

1L Moot Court Competition

The 1L Moot Court Competition was instituted to spark an interest in the programs and its attendant benefits earlier in one’s law school experience. Students who have completed either one or two semesters at John Marshall are eligible to participate in the 1L Competition, which takes place between the spring and summer semesters.

Professor Mary Nagel taught competitors how to deliver winning arguments, and both alumni and 3L volunteer coaches worked intensely with competitors to hone their skills. After just one week of practice, the competitors faced off against each other in a moot court competition at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse with John Marshall alumni and professors serving as judges. The finalists had the privilege to argue in the Ceremonial Courtroom before Professors Hamann, Hodge, and Nagel.

The Moot Court Honors Program is grateful for the generosity of Professor Juli Campagna, Professor Mary Nagel, Professor Joanne Hodge, James Borkman, and Beck's Books for donating the awards presented to the Best Oralist, Best Team On-Brief Argument, Best Team Off-Brief Argument, Semifinalists, and First and Second Place Teams.
