The Center for International Law initiated discussions with the law faculty of the University of Lucerne in 2005. The discussions arose out of the sister city relationship between Chicago and Lucerne that originated in 1998. In 2006, John Marshall and the University of Lucerne signed an exchange agreement to promote the exchange of students and faculty

John Marshall welcomed the first students from Lucerne in the fall of 2007. The first John Marshall student traveled to the University of Lucerne in the spring of 2008.

This program is restricted to current students at John Marshall and the University of Lucerne.
