Student Organizations

The John Marshall Law School is proud to support more than 40 student organizations that foster cultural diversity as well as diverse areas of the law. Some are described below:

Tope Odoffin

Animal Law Society educates and increases public awareness of how the law pertains to animals and their rights and welfare.

Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) affords members the opportunity to work together to provide services to the Asian community as well as to interact with the legal community.

Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) is a broad-based, international coalition of attorneys, judges, law professors, paralegals, and law students, which promotes justice and fairness for injured persons through education and disclosure of information critical to public health and safety.

Black Law Students Association (BLSA)
articulates and promotes the professional needs and goals of the African-American student body.

The John Marshall Law School team of Crystal Brown (center) and Jason Cooper (right) won second place in the Midwest Region of the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition, sponsored by The National Black Law Students Association.  They will compete in the national rounds in Irvine, Calif. in March. They were coached by John Marshall Professor Samuel Jones (left) and Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Joselynne Gardner (J.D. '06) (not pictured).

Brehon Society is an Irish cultural, historical, and social club.

Christian Legal Society is directed toward students who wish to further their relationship with other Christians through community, fellowship, and accountability.

Construction Law Association's purpose is to enhance knowledge of the practice area and to strengthen the school's connection to the construction law industry in Chicago.

Corporate Law Association provides a platform for students interested in corporate law in and outside of the classroom.

Criminal Law Society is an organization that strives to increase the awareness of students, faculty and the legal community in the area of criminal law.

Decalogue Society strives to provide networking opportunities to meet lawyers and judges within the Jewish community.

Decisive Utterance, The John Marshall Law School's student newspaper, offers topical issues of interest to students, faculty and staff.

Elder Law Club's goal is to bring Elder Law to the attention of students and to alert them to a new field in the practice of law.

Employee Benefits Law Student Association
strives to provide a forum for students to network with fellow students, alumni and practitioners in this particular field of law.

Entertainment, Media & Sports Law Society strives to bring together interested students, entertainment lawyers and members of the entertainment industry.

Gay and Lesbian Legal Alliance explores the legal issues incident to sexual orientation.

 

Habitat for Humanity offers real estate legal assistance as well as hands-on assistance for its home building projects.

Hellenic Law Student Association is an organization that is both academic and community- oriented composed of law students of Greek descent.

Intellectual Property Society serves to increase students' awareness of and participation in copyrights, industrial design rights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, or other intangible creations in their expressed form.

International Law Society is an organization that seeks to promote greater interest in international law.

John Marshall Law Security Law Group strives to create an effective, non-partisan forum for informed discourse on U.S. national security policy and foreign affairs.

Justinian Society provides law students of Italian descent the opportunity to network with their peers as well as with established professionals.

Labor & Employment Law Society's principal goal is to assist its members in understanding and entering the field of labor law.

Latino Law Students Association (LLSA) strives to provide assistance and encouragement to first-year students who are of Hispanic ancestry.

The day-long event at The John Marshall Law School was open to high school and college students interested in a legal career.

Law Enforcement Students Organization provides networking opportunities for students who are law enforcement officers.

Masaryk Law Society was formed so that students of Bohemian background can have a forum to exchange ideas and socialize with fellow students.

Middle Eastern Law Student Association provides Muslim law students with a forum to discuss issues that are relevant to them.

Native American and Indigenous Law Students Association provides an educational forum for individuals interested in the cultural and legal concerns of the Native American and Indigenous populations.

Public Interest Law Council encourages students to incorporate into their legal careers the area of public interest law.

Real Estate Law Student Chapter of Lambda Alpha International is an honorary society designed to promote scholarship and
networking among students and land professionals.

Student Bar Association Diversity Affairs Committee hosts events to expose students to a multicultural and diverse atmosphere and legal education, and addresses concerns of students who are represented by these organizations.

Women's Bar Association/Student Division helps students discover how to deal with issues concerning women in law.

Women's Law Caucus raises awareness about women's issues, promotes equality between the
genders, and provides a forum for exchanging ideas.
