Professor Jones holds a JD cum laude from Texas Southern University, and an LLM, with recognition, from Columbia University Law School. He was an associate with the Dallas office of Hughes & Luce, LLP (now known as K & L Gates), one of the nation's largest law firms, for several years. Thereafter, he served as Senior Counsel in the Commercial Law group at AT&T Corp and later as Corporate Counsel for Labor and Employment for Blockbuster, Inc.
Professor Jones is also a former U.S. judge advocate (MAJ, USAR (Ret.)) and former rifleman/scout (SGT, U.S. Marines). He has received numerous military awards and honors, including, but not limited to assignment to U.S. Army Reserve Special Operation unit and receiving two U.S. Army Achievement Medals for his selection as distinguished instructor and distinguished honor graduate. He was also awarded the Navy Meritorious Unit Citation for his actions as a Marine rifleman in the Navy SEAL counterterrorism program known as Red Cell. He is a graduate of numerous military schools, including the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's School; the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School; the U.S. Army Military Police School; the U.S. Marines Platoon Leaders Course, Quantico; U.S. Marines Noncommissioned Officers Leadership Course; and the U.S. Marines School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton.
Professor Jones's scholarship has focused primarily on international criminal law, with an emphasis on "just war" doctrine and moral and ethics philosophy, criminal law, and contracts. He is the former Special Advisor to the Chair, Illinois Judicial Council; the recipient of the 2010 Illinois Judicial Council Chairperson's Award; the 2010 Cook County Bar Association Presidential Award; and the 2010 John Marshall Law School Scholarly Achievement Award. Professor Jones was selected by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve as Guest Faculty at its 2012 Judicial Education Conference, a required training session for all Illinois state judges.
Professor Jones joined the faculty in 2007 and became a member of its tenured faculty in 2011. He teaches Contracts, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Employment Law.
