Early in his career, Robert Nye served as a research fellow at the Institute of Judicial Administration in New York City and as a W.W. Cook Fellow at the University of Michigan School of Law. He also was a trial and appellate attorney with the U.S. Department of Labor in New England and Washington, D.C., and senior law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Professor Nye was in private practice before joining the John Marshall faculty. He has lectured and taught in the People's Republic of China, the Czech Republic, Brazil, Russia, and Australia. He is co-author of two casebooks: Contract Law and Practice (Anderson Publishing Co.), and Business Franchise Law: Cases and Materials (Carolina Academic Press).
Professor Nye represents John Marshall on the steering committee of the Chicago Consortium for Higher Education, has chaired the CBA Committee on Science and Technology and the ISBA Committee on Legal Education, and has served the Illinois Judicial Conference in the areas of chancery and miscellaneous remedies, probate, and family law.
Professor Nye joined the faculty in 1962. He coordinates John Marshall's recently-established Office for Videoconference and Distance Education Programs and teaches Agency and Unincorporated Business Entities, Business Franchise Law, Business Franchise Law & Practice, International Business Franchise Law, Contracts, Illinois Civil Procedure, Secured Transactions, and Remedies.
