Become a Mentor

The Mentor Program is crucial for students. It is easy for students to lose sight of the ultimate goal, real-world practice, in the flurry of exams, interviews, and journal or moot court competitions. You are living proof that there is life after law school and that people can find career satisfaction in the practice of law. Last year, more than 100 students were mentored by alums.

While mentors are under no obligation to hire students in any capacity, they provide the students with information about their practice areas and can connect them with others in their areas of interest.

The CSO has established a database of graduates who are willing to serve as mentors. Students will be invited to select a mentor based on his or her area of interest.

Your commitment would begin in September (or whenever you decide to start) and continue through the school year with a minimum of one face-to-face contact per month and two other contacts per month. The Career Services Office will sponsor a luncheon in the spring. By agreeing to be a mentor, you also agree to meet your student at this spring luncheon.

If you are interested in being a mentor to John Marshall students, call or e-mail Sue Monette, Office Manager at 312-987-1402, ext 505 or 6monette@jmls.edu for more information or to sign up.
