BTEP receives city resolution

(from left) Associate Dean Ralph Ruebner and Michael Schlesinger, Director of BELAW, accept a City Resolution from Alderman Robert Fioretti

Legal questions arise in many different contexts and come in all different shapes, sizes and level of complexity. The Business Enterprise Law Clinic (BELAW) is committed to providing access to quality business and transactional legal representation to persons with limited financial resources to engage a lawyer in connection with their business and transactional matters, preferably from an underserved community and not-for-profit organizations.

Our mission is to work with clients to identify legal and business issues clients want to resolve, make a thorough assessment of those issues and then, together with the client, develop solutions, and the tactics and strategies to achieve the desired results.

Under the supervision of the program director and experienced business and transactional attorneys serving as faculty supervisors, a select group of third-year law students perform all legal work pro bono. Although legal services are provided pro bono, clients are responsible for payment of filing fees and out-of-pocket expenses.
