Employee Benefits Practicum

Eligible Candidates: JD/LLM in Employee Benefits, LLM in Employee Benefits, and JD/LLM in Tax Law and LLM in Tax Law with a concentration on employee benefits
Deadline: Four weeks before the beginning of the semester

The Employee Benefits Practicum was added to the curriculum to provide degree candidates with a hands-on experience in employee benefits practice. Under careful supervision, the candidate will work with a member of the adjunct faculty in one of the various settings where employee benefits practice: law firms, consulting firms, corporations, or government. The course is intended to meet the needs of the individual candidate who has not yet had significant practice experience in the field of employee benefits law.

During the practicum, degree candidates will see how employee benefits attorneys work with other attorneys and employee benefits professionals (e.g., head of human resource, actuaries, accountants, administrators) in accomplishing transactions for their clients. Candidates will also develop an understanding of the relationship between employee benefits attorneys and their clients, as well as the relationships between attorneys and their firms. Candidates will be given assignments similar to those given to new lawyers.
