written brief due February 2009
competition in Buffalo, New York in late February/early March 2009

Annual Law Student Tax Challenge
hosted by the Amercian Bar Association Section of Taxation

problem published HERE
written submission due Friday, November 7, 2008
semi-finalists will be notified by December 19, 2008
oral rounds at the Section of Taxation Midyear meeting in New Orleans, Friday, January 9, 2009

A hypothetical tax business porblem is published on their website in November and teams of JD students and/or teams of LL.M. students submit a written memo to the hypothetical senior partner and a written letter to a hypothetical client.  Based on written submissions, the ABA will select six JD teams to compete against each other and 4 LL.M. teams to compete against each other at the Section's midwinter meeting in January, in whatever city the meeting happens to be in.  In the semi-final rounds, teams present their discussions to tax practitioners acting as "the senior partners" and teams that advance to the final rounds present their discussions to a different group of tax practitioners acting as "the client."  Regardless of competition results, all students are free to attend education sessions and network with tax law attorneys from all over the nation.

Any John Marshall law student interested must either form their own team with an interested fellow JD student (or LL.M. student) and talk to Prof. Kennedy or Kozak before the problem is published, or if interested but can't find a teammate on your own, speak to Prof. Kennedy or Kozak, who will try their best to find a pairing.
