Overview
The Center for Real Estate Law underscores John Marshall's commitment to educating the next generation of real estate attorneys and professionals. We offer the most comprehensive advanced education in real estate law. Our programs attract executive deal makers without law degrees and attorneys that want to gain the breadth and depth in real estate transactions.
John Marshall is located in the heart of downtown Chicago, a city where the development, construction and financing of world-class buildings and projects are an integral part of life. John Marshall's location in a city that has been focused on real estate since its founding and that has many skilled commercial real estate attorneys and real estate professionals, provides it with the ideal setting for learning commercial real estate law and practice.
The Center for Real Estate Law encompasses the LL.M. Program in Real Estate Law, which was established in 1995, John Marshall's Joint J.D./LL.M. Program in Real Estate Law, the Robert Kratovil Seminar in Real Estate Law and the Real Estate Law Student Chapter of Lambda Alpha International, the Honorary Law Economics Society.
LL.M Program in Real Estate Law
The mission of the LL.M. Program in Real Estate Law is to educate and train the next generation of real estate attorneys in the art and practice of commercial real estate with a curriculum that covers all substantive areas of real estate law. Students have opportunities to interact with real estate professionals to begin to develop an understanding of the business aspects of commercial real estate practice and to see real estate transactions from the client's perspective.
Students come from across the country to Chicago to earn an LL.M. in Real Estate Law. Alumni are practicing commercial real estate law or working in the real estate industry throughout the world in a variety of settings.
Center for Real Estate Law
Taking advantage of the resources afforded by its downtown location, the Center runs a Site Visit Program which enables students to visit real estate projects and gain valuable insights into the development process. Career and mentoring programs are arranged every semester.
Since its inception, the Center has had an Advisory Committee comprised of law professors, real estate practitioners (many of whom are members of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.) Many members of the Advisory Committee are members of the LL.M.'s Faculty.
