The LLM degree program is designed to give practicing attorneys an awareness of how technology and privacy issues impact all areas of law and practice as well as the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to stay ahead of the competition in our technology-driven world.
WHY PURSUE AN LLM DEGREE IN IT AND PRIVACY LAW?
- Develop specialized expertise
- Enhance your marketability
- Broaden your networking opportunities
- Fulfill your MCLE requirements
A recent assessment of our competition revealed that we remain the only graduate law program the country that emphasizes privacy as part of its core curriculum. Four required courses form the foundation of our LLM program. More than 20 elective courses round out the curriculum and allow students to gain broad exposure to IT and privacy law and policy or focus on a specialized area such as transactional law, global commerce, litigation, criminal law/law enforcement; corporate and IT management, consumer privacy or corporate privacy and security.
Whether you want to gain experience with the technological tools that law practice and business rely on; develop substantive expertise in the technology and privacy issues facing lawyers and clients today; or design a strategic marketing plan that maximizes the use of technology for specific practice settings, we can help you design a course track that will meet your needs and career trajectory.
The LLM degree program requires completion of 24 credit hours. Full- and part-time options are available allowing students to complete the degree requirements in as little as one calendar year.
Continuing Legal Education credit is available for the successful completion of LLM-level courses. Most courses are pre-approved for ethics as well as regular CLE credit.
LLM applicants must be admitted to the practice of law in the United States or a foreign jurisdiction, or have graduated from an ABA-approved or foreign law school. Additional requirements apply to foreign applicants. Students enrolled in the JD program at The John Marshall Law School may apply for admission to a joint JD/LLM program.
