Externship Placement Directory
The online directory is currently under construction. A copy of the directory including all available placement detail sheets is available for download in PDF.
Only externships with selected, approved placements are eligible for school credit through this program. Absolutely no compensation is allowed per ABA regulations. The list of pre-approved placements include government agencies and not-for-profits, and private firms specializing in the practice of Intellectual Property appears below. Agencies that are not currently listed may be presented to the director for approval. If you are currently volunteering at an approved agency, you may register for the externship program for credit.
PLEASE NOTE:
If a student is accepted for an externship placement to receive school credit, he/she must recognize this as an employment situation, albeit without compensation, and conduct themselves accordingly. The employer, the field supervising attorney and the Director of the Externship program must be listed on the Character and Fitness application form regarding prior employment and supervisors.
After reviewing the available placements, contact the individual listed for the agency and set up an interview. Be sure to tell them that you would like to "extern" with their agency "for school credit." No compensation for your work will be allowed. When you have secured a placement, complete the online Basic Externship Application. Follow the instructions regarding how to submit a copy of your resume that is to accompany your application. Once your application has been approved by the Externship Program Director, it will be forwarded to the Registrar for registration.
APPROVED PLACEMENTS
Select a highlighted placement to view details and contact information where available. Not all placements listed have detail sheets available online. Due to changes in demand and staff supervising externs which is beyond our control, some information listed may be out-of-date. If the contact person listed is no longer with the organization, ask to speak to the person responsible for managing externs.
