JD Certificate in Trial Advocacy

To earn a Certificate in Trial Advocacy, a student must complete the 90 semester hours required for the Juris Doctor degree and satisfy all the JD requirements. All JMLS students must complete the following ten (10) hours of core curriculum courses:

Evidence (4), Professional Responsibility (3),  and either Trial Advocacy (3) or Accelerated Trial Advocacy (Basic or IP) (3), or Trial Lawyer (7)

Within the elective course work required for the JD degree, a student must complete fifteen (15) credit hours from the following categories:

  • A. Minimum of two (2) credit hours in Advanced Trial Advocacy (3) or Scientific
        Evidence Seminar (2)
  • B. Minimum of four (4) credit hours in ADR courses.
  • C. Externship or Clinic program for a minimum of two (2) credit hours and a maximum
        of six (6) credit hours.
        (Must be taken when student is 711 eligible (54 credits) and must be at a litigation-
        based placement)
  • D. Minimum of four (4) credit hours from the following Center activities or the following   elective courses.

Additional Requirements:

  • A student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be accepted into the certificate program.
  • A student must attain a 3.25 GPA in the certificate courses.

  1. The stated minimum credit hours for each section must be satisfied or the application will be rejected (no exceptions).
  2. DO NOT SUBMIT the application more than two months in advance of your graduation. Your application must be submitted no later than one months prior to your graduation
  3. DO NOT SUBMIT the application if you have not satisfied the course requirements for each section. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
